Catalooochee Afterschool Program
Cataloochee Ski Area is pleased to offer your child(ren) an opportunity to learn to ski or improve their skiing and/or snowboarding in special programs offered in January, February & March exclusively to fourth and fifth graders in Haywood County. This year, we have two after school programs, which will run for four weeks each. Skiing will be on Fridays, January 11th and 25th, February 1st and 8th. Snowboarding will be on Fridays, February 22nd and 29th, March 7th and 14th.

Throughout four Fridays in January & February, each child will have an opportunity to enjoy the sport of skiing along with other fourth and fifth graders, guided by one of Cataloochee’s ski professionals. On Fridays in February & March, the classes will snowboard with a snowboard pro. Students will be placed into groups of similar ability and will meet with the same pro each week, whenever possible. The Cataloochee Ski School is a member school of the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI.)

Please note the following program details:

ELEMENTARY PROGRAM FEES The total cost will be $70 per student for skiing and $80 per student for snowboarding or $150 for both sessions (per student.) These fees include all rental equipment, instruction and lift pass for each of the four-week programs. (This would make a great gift!) Children with their own equipment and/or pass are welcome to participate in the program for the same cost.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM FEES The total cost will be $90 per student for skiing and $100 per student for snowboarding (per student.) These fees include all rental equipment, instruction and lift pass for each of the four-week programs. (This would make a great gift!) Children with their own equipment and/or pass are welcome to participate in the program for the same cost.

SCHOLARSHIPS Full and partial scholarships are available for deserving students. Please contact your principal if you feel your child would qualify.

REGISTRATION Forms are available on-line at by clicking HERE and may be downloaded and printed from home or at school. Parents should complete the registration form and release form (one for each student please.) Return these along with your check made to Cataloochee Ski Area for $70 for skiing, $80 for snowboarding or $140 for both sessions (per student) by Monday, January 8th, 2006 to Cataloochee Ski Area, Attn: After School Program Coordinator, 1080 Ski Lodge Rd, Maggie Valley NC 28751.

DATES & TIMES The Learn-to-Ski or Ski Better program will be held on Friday afternoons beginning January 11th. The Learn-to-Snowboard or Snowboard Better* program will begin on Friday afternoon, February 22nd. Try to come directly from school. Allow approximately 30 minutes for check-in and rental equipment. Instruction will be from 4:30-6:30pm for four weeks in each program.

DRESS All skiers and snowboarders should wear layers of warm clothing. Always bring a coat, hat and waterproof gloves. (A change of clothes for the ride home is a good idea.)

SUPERVISION Cataloochee staff will provide supervision of the students while they are taking part in the class; however, a parent or designated adult should remain on the property throughout the session.

POSTPONEMENT These programs will be held whenever the ski area is in operation. Programs will take place even if Haywood County Schools are closed for the day. If the
ski area is not in operation on a program evening, a make-up lift ticket (to be used on any
other evening) will be issued at the next session. If you have any doubt as to whether or not your program is to take place, please call the ski area at 926-0285 on the day of the program.

*Snowboard class size is limited to the first 40 students who will rent equipment from Cataloochee and any students who have their own equipment. Class size will be filled on a first come basis!

(Parents and Teachers, please note – Cataloochee has positions available on our Snow sports staff for persons interested in teaching! Instructor Try-out clinics are held in early December. If you are interested, please call the Ski Area at 926-0285 for more information.)

Sincerely,
Sue Reitze
